College student, Stefan Darts, made the ultimate sacrifice in order to come through on his word. The Houston native and founder of non-profit Caring Heart Youth promised to repay his grandparents for all they had done for him. By limiting his own life, he was able to give them a $15,000 check and a trip to the Bahamas! How many grandchildren do something like that? Stefan is a rarity to say the least.
He made a touching Facebook post where he mentioned his promise:
“I promised God in the second grade I would pay off you guys house and help you retire. A promise I would never break. The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen, nor touched… but are felt by the heart.”
“Even with this, I could never repay you for what you’ve done for me. I sacrificed my teenage and early adulthood of not having fun for this moment. I couldn’t stand you going to work at night, some nights I didn’t even sleep knowing it shouldn’t be like this. Never have I wrote a check wanting this to be the first one. To all my friends that stood by me over these last 6 years I appreciate you.”
CBS affiliate KHOU reported, Darts stacked the doe by eating doe. He lived off microwave pizzas and almost never went out with his friends. Everyone knows how costly going out is these days. His grandparents, Marilyn and Cecil Roberts, had been making mortgage payments for a whopping 20 years before Darts’ check.
Darts then added these remarkable comments to the mix via People magazine, “While many teenagers are partying and having fun I had to sacrifice, and finally this Sunday on March 20th, 2016 at 4:00 p.m. I will experience tears of joy by handing them a check paying off their house so they can retire from work.”
His gift cut their mortgage payments short by a whole 4 years. It’s hard to imagine how blessed the couple felt when their grandson handed them the check. The gesture came from the bottom of his heart.
Don’t forget the trip to the Bahamas either. He really iced the cake by giving them such a wonderful gift. The hardworking couple has probably never been on a trip like that before.
Now his grandparents can retire, finally own their home and take a vacation in the Bahamas. It looks like all those years of sacrifices paid him back instantly in the form of his grandparents’ elation.
